Born and raised in the US, Jesse E. Olsen comes to the Centre for Workplace Leadership from Japan, where he was on the faculty at Kwansei Gakuin University for three years. Prior to that, he also filled an academic role in South Korea after earning his PhD in organizational behavior from the Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA.
Jesse’s research focuses on diversity management, international/cross-cultural management, and leadership. He has presented his work in academic and professional outlets (Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, SHRM and AOM conferences, etc.), as well as in the popular media (SBS, ABC Radio, The Guardian, and The Conversation).
Before starting his career as a researcher and academic, Jesse filled roles as the international exchange coordinator at Kwansei Gakuin University and as a business project manager in the Merger Integration Office and Corporate Strategies Group at SunTrust Bank in Atlanta.
Jesse insists that much can be learned about teamwork, leadership, and other management concepts from comic book superheroes, but he is probably just trying to justify a childhood of immersion in comic books and a continuing obsession with superhero films.
